The things I remember

A Quiet Riot With Words & Art

Weird shit…

HonestInk,

It was back in the days of MSN groups. Somewhere around 2004ish. Fuckface Zuckerberg was still being fed pulped organic avocado and spinach and happily filling his nappy.

So I had made a private group just for me and a few female friends. It was one of the first online chat platforms. We could post pics and talk about general bollocks. We could also moan about our husbands and life in general. For me the pleasure was in the design aspect and also my role as a jokey horoscope/fortune teller. It was a bit of fun. I loved it.

One day someone asked to join who was referred by my sister. Thinking nothing of it they were welcomed and all seemed well. It wasn’t long though before everything started going a bit sour. Slightly veiled threats of revealing what had been talked about. Something was starting to smell.

Back in those halcyon days the author of the group could see the IP address of everyone who posted and it didn’t take long to discover that the ‘new’ person doing the threatening was posting from the same computer as my sister. It was her and her latest man. My best friend and I were incredulous. It was beyond imagining. Just why? Really just why?

I still to this day have no idea why you would do that to your own sister. Why you would think of it, execute the idea and then have the audacity to go mad when I did something about it?

So anyway it didn’t take long for me to hack into my sister’s email account where there was a folder called ‘insurance’. In this folder there were copies of everything that had been posted on the group. I simply deleted it.

My friend and I walked into The mallard sometime after and my sister was sat drunk at the bar. She screamed like a banshee at me that I was a hacker, over and over again. So we just left.

So, was it going to be blackmail? Storing up future needle felting ideas? Or simply the actions of a sociopath? I shall leave that to the reader to decide…
