The things I remember

A Quiet Riot With Words & Art

Nature knows

HonestInk,

Across the road from me is a cemetery that I love to walk the dogs in. some of the graves are pretty old and there are mausoleums that hold families from when this area was rich in industry. I’ve seen Roebuck deer and foxes during the daytime and plenty of rats and it’s a place I absolutely love.

But there is one special grave that belongs to a 5 year old boy. His story was cut short by an evil that I won’t write about here. Everyday without fail his grandfather visits and the other day my neighbour and I and our dogs just happened to be there as he arrived. He gave treats to Noah and Ernie and Eli and then he went about his routine. A routine he’s been doing for thirteen years. First laying food out for the birds and rabbits and squirrels. And they started coming; the little robins sitting on the little boys grave almost straight away. There were blackbirds flying about and landing close by and you could sense nature. You could feel something very special happening.

We left so our dogs wouldn’t put the birds off and my neighbour told me about the robins eating out of his hand and the Jays and the pheasants that she’s seen recently there.

She said ‘there is no stupid animal’
